Prugh Advances to Match Play at U.S. Amateur

Washington senior Alex Prugh qualified for match play at the U.S. Amateur Championship in Chaska, Minn. at the Hazeltine National Golf Club. The Spokane, Wash. native, who sat in a tie for 67th after day one, came roaring back in the second day of stroke play, carding a three-under 68 to finish stroke play in a tie for fifth place.
Playing on the par-71 Chaska Town Course, Prugh recorded four birdies and one bogey en route to his two day total of a one-under 142. The cut for match play came at 4-over-par 147, with an 11-way playoff to determine the final 10 spots.
Prugh is the seventh seeded player in match play and will face 58th-seeded Daniel Summerhays, a senior at Brigham Young, at 10:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
Fellow Huskies Erik Olson and Joe Panzeri failed to make the cut today. Olson shot a four-over 75, bringing his two-day total to 154. Panzeri carded a six-over 78 in stroke play, finishing with a 153.
The U.S. Amateur will have 10 hours of national coverage on The Golf Channel and NBC over the last five days of the Championship.
