Julie Nichols Fourth in Doubles Semifinal

Former Cal rower Julie Nichols, racing in the U.S. women's doubles, finished fourth in her semifinal at the World Rowing Championships in Eton, Great Britain, Friday. As a result, she will compete in the B final this weekend.

The U.S. team stood in second place after 500 meters, but dropped back to fourth at the midway point. They finished the 2000-meter course in 7:17.64.

Only the top three squad qualified for the A final - Australia (7:14.03), Finland (7:15.58) and Great Britain (7:15.65).

The championships continue through Sunday.
