Morton Leads ASU Sweep of Utah Valley State

TEMPE, Ariz. - Day two of the Hilton Phoenix/East Mesa Sun Devil Volleyball Classic rolled on Saturday with the Sun Devils coming out strong to sweep the Utah Valley State Wolverines in three games with Nicole Morton leading ASU with 12 kills and Sydney Donahue with 15 digs. ASU won 30-22, 30-13 and 30-21 over the Wolverines, boosting them to a perfect 2-0, with their third match of the season coming tonight against Loyola Marymount University.

The Sun Devils held the lead over the Wolverines for the majority of the match as they produced a .317 hit percentage with Nicole Morton leading the Devils with a .450 hit percentage for 14.5 points while adding eight of the team's 52 digs.

Marina Mercer and Rachel Mittelstaedt held down the assists for the Sun Devils as Mercer tabbed 23 on the day and Mittelstaedt with 16.

The Sun Devil defense was also firing on all cylinders as they held Utah Valley State to a .158 hit percentage for 43.5 points and only six total ties.

The Hilton Phoenix/East Mesa Sun Devil Volleyball Classic will wrap up tonight with a 5 p.m. match-up of the Northeastern Huskies (0-2) and Utah Valley State Wolverines (0-2) followed with the 7 p.m. championship match-up of Arizona State (2-0) versus the Loyola Marymount Lions (2-0).
