Women's Basketball Italy Diary - Jill Bell
Aug. 26, 2006
Well, we had an early morning once again. Wake up call was at 6:30am and we were off to our next destination, Florence. We rode four hours on the bus. During the trip we spent most of the time chatting and playing games. The scenery of Italy is absolutely amazing! The greenery is much like Seattle, with lots of trees and surrounding hills and mountains.
Once we arrived in Florence, we had some free time to shop and eat lunch. Breanne, Cameo and I went over to some of the markets and saw lots of leathers and jewelry being displayed. It was kind of neat to see all the different vendors and be able to barter with them, to see how low they would actually go from the original price. From there we met up with our tour guide for the day and toured the 'Galleria del'Accademia'. This is where the original sculpture of David is. The Sculpture was massive! It's amazing to see how one person can sculpt something that big and detailed from one block of marble! After the museum we went to the church that Michelangelo was buried in, St. Johns Baptistery. It was another beautiful Cathedral church, but not as big as the Vatican.
Once the touring was finished we were again released for free time and we shopped some more. I bought some shirts and jewelry for friends and then I had dinner at a cute little restaurant in the heart of the square with Breanne, Angie and her mom. The one thing that I love here on a consistent basis is the food! I am in love with Italian food and all the various cheeses! Once we finished, we met up with the group and headed off to our hotel for the next couple of days in Montecatini. Tonight we are off to the discoteca for some dancing with the team and I'm super excited! This is the first time we will out in the town, enjoying the Italian night life.
Tomorrow it's off to the Leaning tower of Pisa....
(Love you Mom!)
