Aug. 28, 2006

WALNUT CREEK, CALIF. - California outside hitter Angie Pressey has been named the Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Aug. 21-27, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Monday. Pressey, a junior from Heathrow, Fla., led the No. 17-ranked Golden Bears with 20 kills and a .429 hitting percentage (20k, 5e, 35att) in the championship match against Baylor, and was named Co-MVP of the Cal Molten Classic along with freshman teammate Hana Cutura this past weekend at Haas Pavilion. The honor marked the fourth consecutive all-tournament selection for Pressey, carrying over from last season.

In Cal's 3-0 victory over UC Davis, Pressey led the Bears in kills (14), hitting percentage (.462) and service aces (three). For the three tournament matches, Pressey tallied 47 kills with five service aces, and averaged 5.22 kills per game. The Pac-10 Player of the Week honor is the third of Pressey's career and the 22nd Pac-10 POW accolade in Cal history.
