Barnes And Yelsey Honored At ITA All-Star Weekend

STANFORD, Calif.- Alice Barnes (Cambridge, U.K.) and Anne Yelsey (Newport Beach, Calif.), the 2006 ITA National Doubles Team of the Year, were honored over the weekend in New York as members of the ITA All-Star Team.
The 2006 ITA All-Star Team, made up of the nation's top-ranked men's and women's players in 2005-06, were treated by the ITA and USTA to a weekend in New York highlighted by activities leading up to the US Open.
Barnes and Yelsey were presented their awards during a luncheon on Saturday in the USTA President's Suite during Arthur Ashe Kids' Day presented by Hess.
The 23rd edition of the ITA Collegiate All-Star Team includes the nation's top-ranked men's and women's tennis players from the season-ending Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings at the NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and NJCAA levels, as well as champions from the 2005 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships and 2006 NCAA Championships.
This year's women's all-stars are: Melissa Applebaum of Miami (Fla.) Emily Applegate of Washington & Lee (Va.), Suzi Babos of California, Alice Barnes of Stanford, Audra Cohen of Miami (Fla.). Luisa Cowper of Armstrong Atlantic State (Ga.) Cristelle Grier of Northwestern, Jelena Pandzic of Fresno Pacific, Alexis Prousis of Northwestern, Marta Simic of Broward Comm. College (Fla.) Diana Srebrovic of Florida and Anne Yelsey of Stanford.
Barnes and Yelsey are the third straight Cardinal duo to be named ITA National Women's Doubles Team of the Year (and fourth in five years). Barnes received the award with Erin Burdette last year. Barnes and Yelsey finished at No. 1 in the Fila doubles rankings. They won the ITA National Indoor title last fall and reached the semifinals of the NCAA tournament. The duo notched a 42-4 record this season.
