Aug. 29, 2006
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- WASHINGTON junior forward Ely Allen has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Aug. 21-27, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Allen, from Kent, Wash., scored two goals and logged one assist during Washington's 5-0 victory over UC Davis on Friday. With just 1:13 before the end of the half, Allen slotted the ball past the keeper during a penalty kick to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead.
In the 62nd minute of the game, Allen converted a breakaway goal after a 40-yard dash down the middle of the field. He scooted past the keeper and pushed the ball into the lower right corner of the goal to make the score 4-0.
Last season, Allen was named to the All-Pac-10 second team after leading the Huskies with four goals and three assists on 45 shots last year.
This is Allen's first weekly honor and the 14th all-time player of the week honor for the Huskies.
