SEVEN PAC-10 TEAMS GARNER TOURNAMENT TITLES IN OPENING WEEKEND
The Pac-10 opened the season last weekend, with all 10 teams combining for a 23-4 record in the opening week of competition. ARIZONA STATE, CALIFORNIA, and USC swept each tournament match played to claim their tournament titles respectivley...ARIZONA, CALIFORNIA, OREGON, and UCLA also garnered tournament titles over the weekend, while WASHINGTON and WASHINGTON STATE competed in their tournament's championship game...STANFORD was the only Conference team that did not participate in a tournament...Here's this week's schedule (all times local to site):

PAC-10 PLAYERS EARN MVP HONORS - With a weekend full of tournaments, six Pac-10 players were awarded tournament MVP honors. Those receiving the honor include: ARIZONA's Brooke Buringrud, ARIZONA STATE's Nicole Morton, CALIFORNIA's Angie Pressey and Hana Cutura, UCLA's Nana Meriwether, and USC's Asia Kaczor.
AROUND THE LEAGUE - ARIZONA's Brooke Buringrud was named Four Points Sheraton Arizona Invitational MVP after leading Arizona to the title. She set career highs in kills, attempts, hitting percentage, digs, blocks and service aces on the week...Sydney Donahue was a digging machine, totaling 81 digs for ARIZONA STATE as it took home the title in the Hilton Phoenix/East Mesa Sun Devil Volleyball Classic. She helped lead the Devils to a perfect 3-0 weekend, thanks to her 50 digs in the title game vs. Loyola Marymount...CALIFORNIA swept Montana, UC Davis, and Baylor at the Cal Molten Classic to solidify a 3-0 record to start the season...OREGON's Mira Djuric led the Ducks to the Oregon Kickoff Classic tournament crown, recording match highs of 18.0 points, 15 kills and a .565 hitting percentage against UC Irvine, and following that up with a team-high 20 kills vs. Portland State...OREGON STATE's Kristin Murray earned a spot on the all-tournament team at the UNLV Classic after exceeding her previous career-high of 13 digs on two occasions, posting 14 against Cal Poly and coming back later in the day to record 17 digs against UNLV...Kristin Richards led STANFORD to a three-game victory against UCSB to open the season. She collected a team-high 14 kills, 11 digs, two blocks and her first ace of the season...UCLA's Nana Meriwether averaged team-highs of 3.86 kills/game, 1.57 blocks/game and a .451 attack percentage against Western Michigan and Cincinnati at the 2006 State Farm Bearcats Invitational presented by The Vernon Manor Hotel, earning her the tournament MVP title....USC newcomer, Asia Kaczor earned tournament MVP honors at the CenturyTel Premier Tournament in San Marcos, Texas, after she registering 42 kills (4.67 kpg) in three matches. The reigning junior college national player of the year recorded only eight errors for a weekend hitting percentage of .370 (42-8-92)...Christal Morison led WASHINGTON with 22 kills against eighth-ranked Texas in the AVCA College Volleyball Showcase Championship, while Stevie Mussie and Alesha Deesing added 13 kills each...Courtney Thompson dished 61 assists and led UW with a career-best 22 digs....WASHINGTON STATE's Adetokunbo Faleti and Corina Beyer were named to the All-Tournament Team at the SDSU Jackrabbit Kickoff Tournament...Beyer had 60 assists.
