Women's Basketball Italy Diary - Emily Florence

Buon giorno to all our friends and fans in Seattle!!!
Today we woke up early and left Venice and headed to Como. It was a beautiful 4 hour trip. We had the chance to stop in Verona for a couple hours on the way. We got to see Juliet's balcony of Romeo and Juliet fame. Many people wrote the names of their loved ones on the wall including some of my teammates!! We shopped and had another lunch of pizza and paninis. Everyday we eat pizza and pasta, but it is delicious. In every city we go on guided tours and then have free time to shop and walk around to enjoy the sites. The shopping is fabulous.
We arrived in Como this afternoon and our hotel is unbelievable. It is right on Lake Como and my room has a balcony overlooking the lake. We just finished our third game against a team in Switzerland and won 111-57. The team was very short - I was actually one of the taller girls on the court today if you can believe that. I am still getting used to the 24 second shot clock and the longer three point line, but as you can tell by the scores of the games we are doing pretty well. Switzerland was only a thirty minute drive from Como. We played in a little gym but quite a few fans were there. Two American girls were on the team and they are going to hang out with us all day tomorrow.
The weather here has been perfect, sunny and warm. We are walking everywhere and trying to learn the Italian language. Luckily we have a translator traveling with us named Sara. She is so much fun. She has taught us the way of life here and makes it easy for us to communicate with the Italians. She has a great personality and a lot of energy. Without her, we would be lost.
Tomorrow we are waking up early before our last game and going on a boat tour of Lake Como. I am so excited to see George Clooney's villa. I can't believe our trip is almost over, it went by way too fast. We are having so much fun and want to thank you all for giving us this opportunity to be here.
