Huskies Wrap Italy Tour With 82-59 Win Over Comense

COMO, ITALY - Washington women's basketball wrapped its tour of Italy with a convincing 82-59 victory over Comense, in Como, Italy, Thursday evening. The Huskies finished the 10-day trip with an unblemished 4-0 record against international competition.
Senior guard Cameo Hicks led the squad with a team-high 17 points to go along with seven rebounds. Joining Hicks in double-figures were senior forward/center Jill Bell (11 points), senior forward Breanne Watson (11) and junior center Andrea Plouffe (10). Plouffe also grabbed a team-high eight boards.
Comense was the top team the Huskies faced during the tour and held a three-point lead after the first quarter. Comense used a 13-4 run to come back from a six-point deficit with just over four minutes remaining in the opening period.
Washington opened the second quarter with a 7-0 run to regain the lead. The score still remained close with the Huskies holding onto an eight point halftime lead, 37-29.
After the intermission, UW quickly gained control with an 11-0 run and built as much as a 17-point advantage. Bell kept the momentum going in the fourth quarter, scoring nine straight points in a 13-0 run.
Head coach June Daugherty used a different starting lineup in each game during the trip. Starting against Comense were senior guard Erica Schelly, sophomore guard Stefanie Clark, Hicks, Watson and Bell. Team captains for the game were senior guard Cheri Craddock, Bell and Watson.The Huskies will depart Milan for Seattle on Friday morning. During the 10-day tour, Washington played four games against international competition and visited Rome, Florence, Venice, Verona, and Como.
