Women's Basketball Italy Diary - Dominique Banks
Aug. 31, 2006
Today was another beautiful day in Italy. Arriving in the amazing city of Como yesterday, our early day started this morning with a wake up call at 9 o'clock. As time passed while getting ready I felt sad but at the same time excited for this day. Sad because this would be the last day in this wonderful place known as Italy. Excited because of another great opportunity to explore and be connected to its culture.
As breakfast ended we would soon gather in the lobby around 9:45am, to start on our boat venture to Bellagio. While waiting for everyone to congregate, I met two of our temporary additions. Janalle and Steph were Americans who played on the team from the previous game in Switzerland joined us on this venture. All were accounted for and it was off to the dock to be introduced to our guide Roberta. Then off we were to set sail on the beautiful lake of Como (although in reality we were not on a sail boat). The water was pretty calm, the sun was shining and warm, the company was great and we were in Como, Italy...Wow! Along the water were beautiful villas that were owned by people of past centuries of hierarchy to people of today. The land of the villas was known to Winston Churchill, to Versace, to George Clooney. There were villas that one, with enough money could rent out for weddings or just large gatherings. Some villas hosted people such as Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas.
The experience in Italy was amazing, I can not really pinpoint one exact moment that was better than another. I can say that this entire trip was one of the most amazing opportunities that I have ever experienced. The beautiful people of Italy, their amazing and intriguing history, the sites the language, I fell in love with in just 10 days. This trip has made me excited to learn more about Italy and all of Europe. I feel there is so much more out there, and this trip has sparked this great interest in this attractively and unique place.
