Sept. 1, 2006

STANFORD, Calif.- Senior two-time All-American Anne Yelsey (Newport Beach, Calif.) is scheduled to compete in the opening round of the 2006 US Open this weekend.

Yelsey, who teamed with Alice Barnes as the 2006 ITA National Doubles Team of the Year, will be matched with Northwestern senior Alexis Prousis as a wildcard entry in doubles competition. The duo will square off against Svetlana Kuznetsova (Russia) and Amelie Mauresmo (France) in the opening round today.

Yelsey and Barnes are the third straight Cardinal duo to be named ITA National Women's Doubles Team of the Year (and fourth in five years). They won the ITA National Indoor title last fall and reached the semifinals of the NCAA tournament. The duo notched a 42-4 record this season.

Also representing Stanford women's tennis in this year's doubles draw was freshman Lindsay Burdette, who dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Michaella Krajicek (Netherlands) and Corina Morariu (USA).

Stanford women's tennis begins its season Oct. 3-8 at the ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
