Devils off to quick start in Japan

The Arizona State men's golf team leads the way in the 2006 Topy Cup Intercollegiate Golf championship after the first round of play held in Tokyo, Japan. ASU shot 1-over 289 to lead a pack of 12 university teams (eight Japanese, four American).

Returning senior All-American Niklas Lemke leads the way for ASU chalking up three birdies while scoring a 3-under 69. Sophomore Ryan Kelly and junior Phil Telliard also contributed to a good first round of play both shooting a 73. Meanwhile, returning All- American sophomore Benjamin Alvarado Holley looks to make his move in the second round shooting a 74 in the first round of play and senior Fredrik Andersson followed with a 78.

Arizona State continues with two more rounds of play. Central Florida University, Kentucky and San Diego State are the other American teams competeing in the 12- team tournament.

Following the Topy Cup the Devils head to Chicago, Ill. on September 24 to compete in the Illini Invitational.
