USC Leads Topy Cup In First Action of 2006-2007 Season

Senior Veronica Felibert and juniors Dewi-Claire Schreefel and Paola Moreno all carded 75s (+3) to lead the Women of Troy to first place after the first round of the Topy Cup at the Tanagura C.C. in Fukushima-ken, Japan.

Senior Catalina Marin posted a 76 (+4) while freshman Caroline Kim added a 78 (+6). USC led with a combined 301, five shots ahead of Japanese opponent Chukyo Gakuin and seven shots ahead of Stanford, the only other American team playing in the women's side of the tournament. Japanese teams Tohoku Fukushi (308) and Nagoya Commerce (311) are also behind USC.

Felibert, Schreefel and Moreno are all tied for fifth, three shots off the lead, while Marin is tied for 11th and Kim is tied for 15th in her first ever outing for the Trojans.

Moreno had a team-best four birdies in the first round. All five Trojans playing birded the 11th hole.

Play continues Wednesday and Thursday (Sept. 6-7).
