Shari Summers Named to National Team of the Week
Sept. 6, 2006
Stanford, Calif. - Stanford midfielder Shari Summers earned her second weekly honor today, as the senior was named to the Soccer Buzz National Team of the Week. Summers was one of 18 Division I players selected from a group of more than 5,000 who took the field this weekend. She is the first Cardinal player to be named to the team this year, and the honor is the first of her career. Yesterday, Summers earned her first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor.
The Canyon Country, Calif. native led the Cardinal to its first two wins of the season this weekend, with a pair of game-winning goals and 12 shots. Against San Francisco on Friday night, Summers netted a header to give the Cardinal a 1-0 lead in the first half. The Cardinal went on to shut out the Dons, 3-0. On Sunday against Cal Poly, Summers started off the scoring once again, with a successful penalty kick early in the first half. The Cardinal finished with its second shutout of the weekend, 2-0.
Stanford will attempt to extend its winning streak on the road this weekend, with matches against Rutgers and Long Island scheduled for Friday and Sunday.
