Volleyball Sweeps Duquesne at UTA Tournament

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State's Brittany Johnson and Jackie Albright combined for 33 kills to lead the Cougar volleyball team to a 30-24, 30-22, 30-27 win over Duquesne Friday morning at the Hilton Arlington/UTA Invitational tournament.
WSU moves to 8-1 on the season while Duquesne dropped to 5-5. The Cougars hit a season-high .350 as a team and held the Dukes to a .192 hitting percentage.
Johnson had a match-high 17 kills and was one of four Cougars to have four blocks in the match. Albright, a freshman outside hitter, added 16 kills, hitting .429. Junior transfer Tara West tallied 10 kills and hit .588 in addition to four blocks. Cassie Robbins and Kelly Rosin had four blocks each as the Cougs out-blocked the Dukes 9 to 3. Freshman libero Kelly Hyder had a match-high 16 digs and freshman setter Corina Beyer had 35 assists.
Amanda Haeg and Jenni Gross each had 11 kills to lead Duquesne. Haeg was also the team leader with 11 digs while Gross had a pair of service aces. Mandy Humphrey had two blocks for DU.
Washington State plays the University of Louisiana-Lafayette Friday evening in the second of four matches for the Cougars at the University of Texas-Arlington Tournament.
