Assistant Coach Hite Leaves Cal for Washington
Sept. 11, 2006
BERKELEY - Fourth-year women's swimming assistant coach Whitney Hite is leaving California to become the head coach of the men's and women's swimming programs at the University of Washington.
Hite joined the staff of Golden Bears head coach Teri McKeever prior to the 2003-04 season and helped the program post three top 10 finishes (6th in 2004, 8th in 2005 and 4th in 2006) at the NCAA Championships.
Hite was also a part of Cal's accomplishments at the Pac-10 Championships (4th in 2004, 3rd in 2005 and 5th in 2006) and at the dual-meet level (9-0 in 2004, 9-2 in 2005 and 11-0 in 2006).
'I want to definitely thank Whitney for his role here and for his tangible and intangible effects on our success over the last three years,' McKeever said.
'When an assistant goes into a head coaching position of that level, it's a reflection of us as a program and on him as an individual. As sad as it is to see him go, it's exciting for us as Golden Bears because we're helping him achieve his goals, and that's always been my commitment to Whitney.'
Cal, which opens the 2006-07 season with an Oct. 12 meet at Northwestern, has begun an immediate search for a new assistant coach.
