Cal Ties For Sixth at Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The California women's golf team opened the 2006 season in a tie for sixth place at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic Tuesday at the Ptarmigan Country Club. The Golden Bears and Eastern Washington each posted 54-hole scores of 896.
Cal improved after each round, capping its performance with a seven-over 295. Colorado won the 17-team tournament with an 872, one shot ahead of Baylor and seven shots ahead of San Jose State (879). Rounding out the top five were host Colorado State (894) and Fresno State (895).
Freshman Christina Frick led all Cal golfers in her first collegiate tournament, tying for 13th at 219. Frick recorded an even-par 72 in the final round on the strength of a score of one-under on the front nine. Sophomore Allison Goodman was the Bears' next best performer in a tie for 25th (224) after carding a 74 over the final 18 holes.
Cal sophomore Shannon Yocum tied for 30th at 226, senior Mika Takayama tied for 36th at 227 after posting a 74 in the final round, and senior Danielle Nash tied for 71st (240). Takayama led the Bears with five birdies in the last round of play.
Long Beach State's Kay Hoey claimed the individual title at three-under 209, while Colorado's Linday Senger was the runner up at 214.
Today's action began with the completion of yesterday's second round, which was halted due to darkness, followed by the third and final round.
Cal returns to action at the NCAA Fall Preview Sept. 22-24 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
