UCLA's Danesha Adams Named Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Sept. 12, 2006
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA junior forward Danesha Adams has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept 5-11, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Adams made her season debut for the Bruins this weekend upon returning from the U-20 World Championships in Russia and promptly led the fifth-ranked Bruins to a pair of wins over ranked opponents. On Friday, Adams scored the Bruins' first goal against fourth-ranked Texas A&M in UCLA's 2-1 victory, putting away a loose ball for her first goal of the season.
On Sunday, Adams contributed a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in UCLA's 3-0 win against 11th-ranked UConn. Adams, the Pac-10's leading scorer in 2005, is already tied for the team lead in scoring with six points in just the two matches.
Now playing with a full complement of players, the Bruins have run off five consecutive wins after losing their opener to stand at 5-1-0. They face Cal State Northridge this Friday in Los Angeles.
This is Adams' second Pac-10 Player of the Week honor, and first since the first week of the 2004 season. It is UCLA's 17th weekly honor all-time.
