Rachel Buehler Named to National Team of the Week
Sept. 13, 2006
Stanford, Calif. - Stanford senior Rachel Buehler has been named to the Soccer Buzz National Team of the Week, as announced by the magazine today. For the second time in her career, Buehler was one of four defenders and 18 players recognized in the elite group. Buehler is the second-straight Stanford player to be among the top-18, as fellow senior Shari Summers was honored last week.
This weekend, Buehler led the Cardinal defense to another pair of shutouts. On Friday night, Buehler and the Cardinal held Rutgers off goal in a 1-0 win and allowed Long Island just one shot two days later. Buehler also assisted on the game-winner in Sunday's 4-0 victory. The Stanford defense has now shut out its last four opponents and held the group to just three shots on goal.
Buehler and the Cardinal are set to host the Stanford Nike Invitational this weekend, a four-team tournament that includes Stanford, Tennessee, Boston University and Santa Clara. Stanford meets Tennessee in the first round in a match scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday night.
