Sept. 20, 2006
The Arizona State women's basketball team is ranked preseason No. 11 according to Athlon Sports College Basketball 2006-07, which hit newsstands this week.
The Sun Devils return four starters - senior F Emily Westerberg, senior F Aubree Johnson, junior G Jill Noe and junior G Reagan Pariseau - from last year's team, which tied the single-season school record for wins (25), set the school record for most Pac-10 wins (14), tied the highest ranking in school history (No. 9) and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The 2005 season also included a perfect 15-0 record at home and a school record 10-game winning streak. In addition to their 10 returning letterwinners, the Sun Devils will also be featuring four freshmen, including former Phoenix St. Mary's standouts G Dymond Simon and F Kayli Murphy.
After a pair of home exhibition games vs. Love and Basketball (Nov. 2) and Vanguard University (Nov. 6), the Sun Devils kickoff the 2006-07 season with the Veterans Day Classic on Nov. 10, 12 and 13. The three-day event will feature perennial powers New Mexico, Florida Atlantic and Nebraska. ASU's pre-conference schedule also includes a home game against the Tennessee Lady Vols (Nov. 19) and the 'Hoops for Health Classic' (Dec. 18) in which the Sun Devils will take on the Texas Tech Lady Raiders outdoors at Chase Field in Phoenix.
