Bruins Sweep Ducks in Pac-10 Opener

EUGENE, Ore. - The third-ranked UCLA women's volleyball team won its Pac-10 opener on Thursday night at Oregon, defeating the Ducks 30-22, 30-13, 30-20. The Bruins (14-0, 1-0 Pac-10) were led by sophomore Ali Daley who had 16 kills and four block assists for 18 points to go along with a team-high 13 digs in the match. Senior middle blocker Nana Meriwether contributed on nine of UCLA's 18 blocks.
The Bruins held Oregon to an .094 team attack percentage in the opening game of the match and forced the Ducks into a -.114 percentage with 10 kills, 15 errors and 44 attacks in the second game of the match. For the entire match, the Ducks hit just .015 to UCLA's .258. The Bruins out-blocked Oregon 18-6 and out-dug the Ducks 57-49.
The match lasted just 80 minutes and UCLA trailed just twice the entire evening. The Bruins led for the remainder of the match after taking a 3-2 advantage in the second gmae.
UCLA will play its 15th consecutive road match on Friday night, facing Oregon State at 7 pm in Corvallis, Ore.
