Nash Leads the Way for Bears on First Day of Fall Preview

BERKELEY, Calif. - Senior Danielle Nash was the bright spot for the California women's golf team Friday after the opening round of the Golf Daytona Beach NCAA Fall Preview at the LPGA International's Legends Course. The Golden Bears are in 17th place after firing a score of 320 on the first of three days of competition.
Georgia leads the national-caliber field at one-over 289, while Auburn is second at 298. Tennessee (299), Arizona (300) and Vanderbilt (302) round out the top five teams at the 18-team tournament.
Nash is tied for third in the individual competition after tallying a career-best round of one-under 71. Nash scattered six birdies and added an eagle on the par-five eighth hole.
The other four Golden Bear golfers shot disappointing rounds of 80 or worse. Sophomore Allison Goodman is tied for 66th at 80, and freshman Christina Frick is in 78th place at 83. Sophomore Shannon Yocum recorded the Bears' final counting score at 86 to tie for 85th.
Tennessee's Nicole Smith carded a five-under 67 to hold a three-shot edge over Vanderbilt's Jacqui Concolino after the first round.
Cal looks to bounce back Saturday when the second round tees off at 8 a.m. ET.
