No. 13 Cal Edges Boise State, 2-1

BERKELEY, Calif. - No. 13 California rallied from a goal deficit to defeat Boise State, 2-1, Friday afternoon at Edwards Stadium. The Golden Bears improved to 6-1-2 with the victory, while the Broncos fell to 4-4 in the teams' first-ever meeting.
Randi Baker scored on a scramble inside the six-yard box to give Boise State a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.
Cal senior Julia Schnugg tied the game at 1-1 in the 29th minute when she chipped the keeper for her second goal of the season. Junior midfielder Caroline Lea was credited with an assist on the play for delivering a perfect pass to Schnugg. In Cal's 2-0 shutout of Dayton in its last outing, Lea notched the game-winning goal.
Boise State and Cal entered halftime tied at 1-1, but the Bears held an 8-3 advantage in shots. Less than two minutes into the second half, Cal senior forward Katie Ratican scored her first goal of 2006 on a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box. Her strike to the right side of the goal held up to be the game winner.
The Bears outshot the Broncos, 15-5, overall, including an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. Junior forward Stephanie Wieger paced Cal with five shots off the bench, while freshman forward Lisa Kevorkian generated three shots early in her first collegiate start.
Senior goalkeeper Anna Key secured two saves for Cal, and Kim Parker posted six saves in the losing effort.
Cal returns to action Sunday against San Francisco at 3:30 p.m. at Edwards Stadium.
