Women's Golf Tied for Fourth Place
Sept. 23, 2006
Daytona Beach, Fla. - The Arizona State women's golf team is tied for fourth place after the second round of competition at the 2006 Golf Daytona Beach Women's Fall Preview. The second-ranked Sun Devils shot a 22-over 598 (330-298) to tie with Virginia and Wake Forest. Georgia continues to hold on to the top spot, shooting an 8-over 584.
'We improved today by two shots', said Head Coach Melissa Luellen. 'I don't feel like we are playing that well. We are still tied for fourth place and that's a pretty good situation. We are looking forward to tomorrow. The last day is the best day.'
Individually, sophomore All-American Jennifer Osborn and freshman Anna Nordqvist lead the Sun Devils after both shot a 3-over 147 (73-74) to tie for 11th place. Sophomore All-American Azahara Munoz shot a 6-over 150 (77-73) to tie for 29th place. Freshman Juliana Murcia is currently tied for 48th after shooting a 10-over 154 (77-77). Junior Camila Sola shot an 18-over 162 (84-78) to tie for 79th place.
The last round of the 2006 Golf Daytona Beach Women's Fall Preview concludes tomorrow at the 6,984-yard LPGA International's Legends Course. The LPGA International's Legends Course will also be the home of the 2007 NCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championship, May 22-25, 2007.
'The grass is so different on this course', said Luellen. 'It is also very hot and humid and that's taking a toll on us. Adjusting to the grass, I think, is the hardest to deal with. Our goal for tomorrow is shooting even par or better.'
