Moreno Ties For 7th To Lead USC In Daytona
Sept. 24, 2006
Junior Paola Moreno fired a final-round 70 (-2) to tie for seventh in the 90-woman field, highlighting the USC women's golf team's efforts during the conclusion of the 2006 Golf Daytona Beach Women's Fall Preview, hosted by Central Florida University and the Central Florida Sports Commission, on Sunday (Sept. 24).
The Women of Troy began and finished the day tied for 11th with 902 (304-301-297, +38), finishing 33 shots behind Georgia, which led the tournament from start to finish. Among the 18-team field were 17 teams that finished last season ranked in the Top 20.
Moreno improved from a tie for 11th to a seventh-place tie with her lowest round since last November. Her finish was her best since tying for fourth in February. Her final round featured five birdies. She was no worse than two-over in any round of the event.
Senior Catalina Marin was USC's next highest finisher, tying for 29th with a 224 (+8) after wrapping up playing with a 76 (+4). Junior Dewi-Claire Schreefel finished tied for 49th after a final-round 76 gave her a 229 (+13).
USC's 11th-place tie ended a streak of three consecutive tournaments of finishing no lower than second. USC also hadn't finished outside the top 10 since tying for 11th at the 2005 NCAA Championships.
