Cougar Tennis Prepares for ITA All-American

Sept. 25, 2006

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State's Amy Toth and Ekaterina Burduli will represent the Cougars at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships, Friday Sept. 30.

'We are thrilled to have Amy and Eka representing the Cougs at the prestigious ITA All-American Championship this weekend,' WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart said.

Burduli is ranked No. 47 and coming off her second collegiate tournament title after capturing the A flight at the BYU Invitational. Burduli is set to take her momentum into the national tournament where she will be playing in the qualifying draw at the All-American Championships.

'Eka's performance at the BYU Invitational should give her great momentum into the ITA, her confidence should be growing by winning the top flight at the invitational,' Hart said.

Toth, a senior, will accompany Burduli at this weekend's tournament, where she is set to take part in the prequalifying draw. The top eight competitors from the prequalifying draw will be placed in the qualifying draw, with the top eight performers there advancing to the main draw. Toth went 2-2 at the BYU Invitational last weekend, advancing to the quarterfinals, before falling to third-seeded Lauren Jones of BYU.

The two were also selected for the prequalifying draw in doubles. The tandem has yet to play a collegiate match together, but have had great success in singles play along with doubles play with different partners.

The rest of the Cougars are preparing for the Boise State Invitational, which takes place Oct. 6-8.
