Five Current And Former Stanford Swimmers On 2007 National Team Rosters

Stanford, Calif. - Five current and former Stanford swimmers have been named to rosters of 2007 USA national teams announced by USA Swimming. Former Cardinal swimmer Tara Kirk (2000-04) leads the way with her selection to the FINA World Championships team, while freshman Julia Smit has been named to the Pan American Games squad. Junior Brooke Bishop and freshman Elaine Breeden are joined by former Cardinal Kristen Caverly (2002-06) on the World University Games team.
Kirk is the most accomplished international swimmer among the five, having competed in the 2004 Olympic Games and earning a silver medal by swimming on the prelims of the U.S. 400 meter medley relay while also taking sixth in the 200 meter breaststroke. Kirk earned her first international gold medal by winning the 100 breast at the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships. She has also won four national titles and 11 NCAA crowns.
Stanford's 2006-07 squad will open its season in a tri-meet versus San Jose State and Oregon State at the Avery Aquatic Center on Friday, October 6 (1:00 pm, PT).
