Longshore, Bruce, Douglas Named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Football Players of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--Quarterback Nate Longshore of California, defensive end Mkristo Bruce of Washington State and punter Sean Douglas of Washington have been named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Football Players of the Week.

Longshore, a sophomore from Canyon Country, Calif., directed California's offense in the Golden Bears' 49-21 win against No. 18-ranked Arizona State. Longshore completed 18 of 26 passes (.692) for 270 yards and four touchdowns covering 9, 31, 23 and 8 yards with just one interception. All four touchdown passes came in the first half as California built a 42-14 halftime lead. It marks the second time this season Longshore has been named Pac-10 offensive player of the week having also been so honored after his performance in Cal's win against Minnesota.

Bruce, a senior from Renton, Wash., had a record-setting performance in Washington State's 36-10 win at Stanford. Bruce posted a school-record five quarterback sacks for minus-33 yards among his seven tackles (six solo). He currently leads the Pac-10 and the nation with seven quarterback sacks this season. The Cougar defense limited Stanford to 11 first downs and 195 yards total offense (28 rushing, 167 passing) and posted eight quarterback sacks for minus-61 yards.

Douglas, a senior from Bellevue, Neb., helped in the field position battle in Washington's 29-19 win against UCLA. Douglas averaged 48.8 yards on five punts, with a long of 64 yards and one punt downed inside the 20-yard line. Douglas leads the Pac-10 and the nation in punting with a 48.8-yard average.

Others nominated for offensive player of the week honors were wide receiver Sonny Shackelford of Washington, tailbacks Emmanuel Moody of USC, Yvenson Bernard of Oregon State, Ryan Torain of Arizona State and Chris Markey of UCLA and quarterback Alex Brink of Washington State. Also nominated on defense were cornerbacks Daymeion Hughes of California and Alterraun Verner of UCLA and linebackers Rey Maualuga of USC, Alan Darlin of Oregon State and Scott White of Washington. Justin Medlock of UCLA, DeSean Jackson of California and Jason Hill of Washington State were nominated for special teams play.
