AUBURN, Wash. - Washington men's golfer John Wise won the individual title and the Huskies claimed runner-up honors in the team race as the Opus NW Husky Invitational wrapped up Tuesday at Washington National Golf Course.

UCLA was crowned tournament champion shooting nine-under 855, while the Huskies finished the three rounds at even par.

Wise, a sophomore who competed in just one varsity tournament for the Huskies last year, shot one-under 71 in today's final round to finish seven-under 209 overall. Wise, competing as an individual, entered the third round in second place behind UCLA's Lucas Lee after carding rounds of four-under 68 and two-under 72 in the first and second rounds, respectively, on Monday.

'I played solid. I was playing as an individual and I wasn't really involved in the team stuff so there wasn't much pressure,' Wise said. 'I just went out and played the best I could.'

Lee ended up finishing second overall, one stroke behind Wise at six-under 210. The Bruins led wire to wire to win the team title. Washington ended up 12 strokes ahead of third-place finisher UC Davis (12-over 876). Cal ended up in fourth place (13-over 877), followed by Washington State (17-over 881), Loyola Marymount (22-over 886), San Diego State (23-over 887), Oregon State (27-over 891) and Oregon (32-over 896).

In addition to Wise, two other Huskies notched Top-10 finishes including senior Alex Prugh who tied for third with Louie Bishop from UC Davis. Prugh turned in his best round of the tournament on Tuesday, carding a four-under 68. In the first two rounds he shot one-under 71 and even-par 70. UW freshman Nick Taylor made a strong collegiate debut, finishing tied for 10th at two-under 214. UW senior Erik Olson finished just behind Taylor in a tie for 11th (one-under 215).

'Today was an excellent round as a team,' UW head coach Matt Thurmond said. 'More than anything I'm thrilled for John Wise. He walked on to the team last year and only played in one of our varsity events. For him to come out and win a tournament like this in his first tournament of the year is just outstanding for him. To be in the hunt and to come out and have another really good round today is impressive.'

Next week, the Huskies will send separate squads to the Northwest Collegiate Classic in Corvallis, Ore. (Oct 2-3) and the Ping/Golfweek Preview in Williamsburg, Va. (Oct. 2-4).
