Shari Summers Named to National Team of the Week
Sept. 27, 2006
Stanford, Calif. - Stanford midfielder Shari Summers has been named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week announced the magazine today. Summers is among the nation's top 18 players for the second time in 2006 and the second time in her career.
Last weekend, Summers scored three times in two games to help the Cardinal to a pair of wins. The senior cracked a shot off the right post and into the goal in the 55th minute to help the Cardinal to victory over UC Irvine. Two days later, she spurred the Cardinal offense against San Diego State, netting two unassisted goals in the first half.
The weekly honors continue to roll in for the senior, as this marks Summers' third honor of the week. Summers was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week for the second time in her career yesterday, becoming the first Cardinal player to be selected twice in one season. Summers was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week for her performance this weekend. She currently leads the Cardinal with six goals and 32 shots. She also leads the Pac-10 conference in goals (6) and game-winning goals (4).
Stanford will meet local rival Santa Clara this weekend in a match scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday night at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara.
