Bernstein, McKim Team Up on Radio Broadcasts
Sept. 28, 2006
BERKELEY - California basketball will have a slightly new sound in 2006-07 as long-time play-by-play announcer Roxy Bernstein will be joined by analyst Todd McKim on radio broadcasts this season.
Bernstein will begin his 10th year as the voice of the Golden Bears in November. A Cal graduate, he started calling Bear games during the 1996-97 season.
In addition to his work with Cal, Bernstein serves as a radio play-by-play announcer for the Florida Marlins baseball team. He has also been the sideline reporter for Golden Bear football games and called play-by-play for the NHL's San Jose Sharks, NHL Radio, baseball's San Francisco Giants, and the NFL on the Sports USA Network.
Although new in his analyst role this season, McKim's voice should be familiar to Cal fans. He is in his second season as the radio sideline reporter for Bear football games and is the host of Cal's weekly highlight show, the Cal Sports Report, on Comcast SportsNet. McKim also filled in as the play-by-play announcer on several basketball broadcasts in 2005-06 when Bernstein was unable to attend due to baseball commitments.
A long-time member of the Oregon media and a television anchor and sports director in Eugene, McKim was the 2000 Oregon broadcaster of the year, becoming the first person outside of the Portland area to win the award.
Cal radio broadcasts can be heard on KYCY Radio (1550 AM) out of San Francisco again this season. Broadcasts can also be accessed on the web through CalBears.com and on XM satellite radio.
