LOS ANGELES - Current USC head women's volleyball coach Mick Haley and former USC All-American Sue Woodstra will be inducted into the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Hall of Fame on Dec. 13 in Omaha, Neb. The fourth annual Hall of Fame class, which totals six individuals, will be inducted in conjunction with the 2006 AVCA Annual Convention (Dec. 11-16).
Haley and Woodstra join former player and current Long Beach State women's volleyball assistant coach Debbie Green and former head coach Lisa Love (now the athletic director at Arizona State) as the only AVCA Hall of Fame inductees.
Haley is in his 30th overall year as a collegiate head coach and boasts an overall record of 1,012-242-1 (.807). His extensive resume includes four Division I national women's championships (two at USC and two at Texas), as well as six overall junior college national titles at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Mich. He spent four years (1997-2000) as the head coach for the United States National Team, leading Team USA to a fourth-place finish at the 2000 Olympics.
He is currently in his sixth year at USC with an overall record of 144-22 (.867) with a 78-13 (.857) mark in Pac-10 Conference play, guiding the Women of Troy to a No. 5 national ranking prior to tonight's match against Washington State.
Woodstra led USC as an outside hitter to the 1977 AIAW Championship, earning All-America status in the process for coach Chuck Erbe. The Colton, Calif. native also was the captain for the 1984 U.S. Olympic Team, which earned the silver medal in Los Angeles. She was selected as a USVBA All-Time Great in 1993 and was recently named to the USAV All-Era Team.
After her professional career, which included playing with the NEC Volleyball Team of the Japan League (1984-88), Woodstra turned to coaching with experience at the Division I and II levels. Currently, she is the head coach at Humboldt State University.
