Huskies Fall To No. 5 USC, 3-1
Sept. 29, 2006
LOS ANGELES-- The fourth-ranked Washington volleyball team dropped its second match in as many days with a 3-1 loss to fifth-ranked USC Friday night at the Lyon Center. The loss comes one night after a heartbreaking five-game loss at UCLA, marking the first time the Huskies have been swept by the L.A. schools since the 2003 season. Game scores were 28-30, 30-27, 30-21, 30-28.
USC improves to 15-0 overall and 4-0 in the Pac-10, while Washington dips to 12-3 overall and 2-2 in the Pac-10.
Washington out-hit the Women of Troy .217-.215 and held advantages in kills (71-69) and blocks (17-13) but 14 service errors for the second straight night- compared to six for USC- proved to be its achilles heel.
Senior All-American Courtney Thompson set up the Huskies' offense, collecting 61 assists, while also picking up 18 digs on defense.
Freshman libero fronted the UW defensive effort with a career-high 30 digs, while Deesing added eight blocks.
The Huskies return to action next week when they host Oregon and Oregon State, Oct. 6-7.
