Oct. 3, 2006
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - OREGON STATE junior forward Jodie Taylor has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 26-Oct. 2, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Taylor, a native of Wallasey, England, scored the game-winning goal in Oregon State's lone match last week, a 2-1 overtime victory over Portland State. Near the end of the first overtime, Taylor picked up a through ball and had only the PSU goalie to beat. She put the ball away at the 99:29 minute mark. Taylor was active throughout the match, tallying six total shots, three of which were on goal.
The goal was the 14th game-winning goal of Taylor's career, which sets an Oregon State school record. Taylor, a two-time All-Pac-10 first team selection, is also tied for second place on OSU's career goals list with 31. Taylor's 19 points this season leads the Conference and her 0.64 assists per game average ranks 14th in the nation.
Oregon State (7-2-2) opens up Pac-10 play next week at Arizona State and Arizona. The Beavers have suffered only one defeat in their past nine matches.
This is Taylor's first Player of the Week award and the fifth all-time for Oregon State.
