WSU Tennis Set to Travel to Boise

This Week - The Washington State women's tennis team will be traveling to Boise, Idaho to participate in the Boise State Invitational...tournament play begins Friday, Oct. 6, and concludes Sunday, Oct. 8...matches will be played at the Appleton Tennis Center.
Participating in the Boise State Invitational - WSU, Oregon and Boise State will represent the Pacific Northwest in the tournament...New Mexico rounds out the field of four...Oregon's Dominika Dieskova (26, New Mexico's Iva Gersic (65) and Ekaterina Burduli (47) of WSU are the only three participants nationally-ranked.
BYU Invite Recap - Last week, WSU traveled to Provo, Utah to compete in the BYU Invitational...junior Ekaterina Burduli captured first place in the top flight singles bracket to highlight the trip for the Cougars...teammate Aleksandra Stefanova reached the final in the second flight...WSU sent five of its seven participants to the quarterfinals (Amy Toth, Burduli, Marjolein van de Ven, Stefanova and Anastesia Opata)...WSU seeded three student-athletes in the tournament.
Newcomers - Newcomers Anastesia Opata and Ashley Spicer were successful in their collegiate athletics openers...Opata reached the quarterfinals in the second flight and was the third-seed...Spicer fell in the Round of 16 at the invitational, but won her next two matches, finishing the tournament 3-1.
ITA All-American - Burduli and Toth competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships...duo fell in the first round of the prequalifying doubles draw and Toth dropped a second round prequalifying match to end her run at the tournament...Burduli plays Tuesday, Oct. 3 in the qualifying draw...if Burduli reaches the main draw she will not travel with the team to Boise...Burduli plays Caitlin Burke of Wisconsin, the fourth-seed and ranked 31 nationally.
Rankings - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason rankings has WSU's Ekaterina Burduli ranked 47th.
