Oct. 5, 2006

LOS ANGELES - Reigning NCAA singles champion Susie Babos continued her strong fall campaign with a first-round victory in the main draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships. Babos defeated Jenna Long of North Carolina, 6-3, 6-4 at the Riviera Tennis Club on Thursday.

The momentum from her national championship last season has carried over into the fall, as the win marked Babos' fifth straight singles victory of the fall season.

Babos' teammate Zsuzsanna Foder was defeated in her first round matchup of the championships. The current Pac-10 singles champion lost in three sets to Florida's Diana Srebrovic, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. It was only the second singles loss of the fall campaign for Fodor, as the first came against Babos in the finals of the Cal Invitational.

Babos continues in round two of the championships against Kristi Miller of Georgia Tech on Friday.
