Stanford Starts Season Friday By Hosting Oregon State and San Jose State

Oct. 5, 2006

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford starts its 2006-07 schedule today with a tri-meet versus non-conference local rival San Jose State and Pac-10 foe Oregon State at the Avery Aquatic Center.

This season's Cardinal roster features 18 returning letterwinners, including All-Americans Brooke Bishop, Caroline Bruce, Cassidy Krug, Andrea Axtell and Madeline Rovira. Bruce was also a two-time NCAA champion in 2005 when she swept the 100 and 200 breaststroke.

Stanford continued a string of top six finishes at the NCAA Championships when the Cardinal finished fifth in 2006 after taking third at Pac-10 Championships and posting a 13-2 dual meet record that began with a season-opening victory over San Jose State.

Oregon State was 31st nationally and seventh in the Pac-10 last season, while San Jose State took fourth in the WAC but did not score any team points at the 2006 NCAA's.

Following today's meet, Stanford will continue a busy fall season by hosting the Alumnae on Saturday, October 14 (10 am, PT). Stanford will also travel to Texas (October 27-28) for a dual meet and Tennessee (November 10-11) for a three-way meet versus the Lady Vols and Auburn. The divers will also host California in a non-conference event November 8 between the two road trips. The squad will complete the fall portion of its schedule at the three-day Texas Invitational (November 30 - December 2).
