Kuharsky, Chu Win First-Round Matches At Bronco Classic

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Andy Kuharszky (Budapest, Hungary) and David Chu (Vancouver, B.C.) won their first-round matches on Friday at the Bronco Classic in Santa Clara, Calif.

Kuharszky, seeded No. 2 in the Flight A singles draw, defeated Stanford's Eric McKean 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-1, while David Chu, seeded No. 1 in the Flight B singles draw, defeated Gonzaga's Brett Womack 6-3, 6-0.

In other Flight A singles action involving Huskies, freshman Derek Drabble (Johannesburg, South Africa) dropped his match 7-5, 6-0 to UCSB's Philip Therp. Senior Michael Ricks (Orinda, Calif.) lost to Nevada's Guillaume Tonelli 6-3, 6-4.

Freshman Holden Ching (Hilo, Hawai'i) lost in his Husky debut in the Flight B singles draw 7-5, 7-6 (2) to Petr Sitnikoy, while Andy Gerst (Redondo Beach, Calif.) had to withdraw due to illness.
