PULLMAN, Wash. - The University of Oregon volleyball team held Washington State a season low hitting percentage Saturday night as the Ducks swept the Cougars 30-25, 30-21, 30-25, before 513 fans at Bohler Gym.
WSU, 13-7 overall, 1-5 in Pac-10 play, hit -.014, while Oregon, 12-3 overall, 2-3 in conference action, hit a mere .129 in the three-game win.
Oregon had the only players with double-figure kills in Erin Little's 13 and Neticia Enesi's 10. Kristen Bitter had eight blocks and Karen Waddington added six blocks. Setters Heather Madison (21) and Nevena Djordjevic (19) combined for 40 assists while libero Katie Swoboda had 26 digs. Mira Djuric, the leading server in the Pac-10, landed a pair of aces.
'We have many young, major contributors to our team and hopefully tonight was a lesson we can learn from,' WSU Head Coach Brian Heffernan said. 'Yesterday we didn't play great but we got away with it and tonight we played a much-improved Oregon team than what we had seen in the past couple of years. We have to come ready to play every single night and tonight I just didn't think we came focused and I could see it in warm-ups. We have to find a way to be mentally stronger than we were tonight.'
Washington State travels to Seattle to play No. 5 Washington (14-3, 4-2) Friday, Oct. 13, in a live television broadcast on Fox Sports Net Northwest.
