Kuharszky Reaches Semifinals at Bronco Classic

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Andy Kuharszky (Budapest, Hungary) beat Kalim Stewart of California 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 to reach the semifinals of the Flight A Singles draw of the Bronco Classic in Santa Clara, Calif. Kuharszky will face Philip Therp of UC-Santa Barbara in one semi-final match on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
Michael Ricks (Orinda, Calif.) has advanced to the semi-finals of the consolation bracket of the Flight A Singles after winning two matches on Saturday. Ricks beat Zack Radetzky of Gonzaga 6-0, 6-2 in the third round and downed Max Taylor of UC-Santa Barbara 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals to advance to Sunday's semi-final round.
In other Flight A Singles action, Derek Drabble (Johannesburg, South Africa) won his third-round match after his opponent withdrew due to injury, before falling in a modified third-set tie breaker 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) to Oregon's Mike Myrhed.
David Chu (Vancouver, B.C.) advanced to the quarterfinals of the Flight B Singles draw before being defeated by Jay Wong of Santa Clara 6-2, 7-5. Chu reached the quarterfinals draw by beating Jeffrey Fong of UC-Santa Cruz 6-1, 6-3 in the third round earlier in the day.
The only other Husky competing in the singles bracket was freshman Holden Ching (Hilo, Hawai'i), who lost in the consolation bracket of the Flight B Singles 6-4, 6-2 to UC-Santa Barbara's Josh Finkelstein.
The Huskies' pair of doubles teams advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Flight A Doubles bracket after their opponents withdrew due to injury, but each team lost in the quarterfinals. The No. 1 seeded pair of Drabble and Kuharszky lost 8-6 to Stanford's Eric McKean and Paul Morrissey, while Ching and Ricks lost 9-8 (7) to Jack Hui and Philip Therp of UC-Santa Barbara.
