Cal Routs Northwestern, 191-102, in Opener

EVANSTON, Ill. - The California women's swimming and diving team routed Northwestern, 191-102, in its season-opening dual meet on Thursday at the Norris Aquatics Center. The Golden Bears (1-0) won 13 out of 16 events, and set three pool records. Cal sophomore Jessica Hardy won the 100-yard breaststroke in a Norris record time of 1:01.02, sophomore teammate Dana Vollmer set a record of 1:47.29 in the 200 freestyle and the Bears quartet of Hardy, senior Sherry Tsai, Vollmer and junior Emily Silver set a record of 3:22.49 in the 400-free relay.

The Bears next compete against Minnesota in a dual meet scheduled for 6 p.m. CT tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 13, in Minneapolis, Minn.
