UW Women Lose 3-1 Soccer Decision at Oregon
Oct. 13, 2006
EUGENE, Ore. - Nicole Garbin scored what proved to the winning goal less than two minutes into the second half Friday, lifting the Oregon women to a 3-1 victory over Washington in a Pac-10 soccer game at Papé Field.
Washington's overall record dropped to 5-8 and 0-2 in Pac-10 play. The Ducks remained perfect in conference play at 3-0 with an 8-5 overall mark.
Garbin's goal was her team-leading eighth of the season. She ran on to a pass from Leigh Quinlan that set her up with a one-on-one situation against UW goalkeeper Kelsey Rasmussen (Gig Harbor, Wash./Bellarmine Prep). Garbin pushed the shot into the net at 46:37.
The Ducks' opening goal was an unassisted tally by Allison Newton at 17:42.
Oregon netted its final score at 66:25 when Tiffany Smith collected a long pass from Dani Oster and curled it around Rasmussen from 15 yards.
Freshman Lindsey Kasser (Issaquah, Wash./Issaquah) scored her first collegiate goal for the Huskies' lone score. She curved a corner kick from the left side inside the near post at 77:07.
Rasmussen was credited with three saves for Washington, which outshot the Ducks 15-8. Oregon's Jessie Chatfield stopped two shots.
Washington concludes a four-game road trip, Sunday at Oregon State. The Huskies return home for the first time in nearly a month when they host California, Friday, Oct. 20 at 5 p.m.
