UW Doubles Team Advances to Bulldog Classic Finals

FRESNO, Calif -- Patrik Fischer and Michael Ricks are the lone Huskies alive at the Bulldog Classic in Fresno, Calif., after winning twice on Saturday to advance to the Flight A Doubles Championships.

Fisher and Ricks upset the No. 2 seeds Rudolph Siwy and Mirko Zapletal of Fresno State 8-5 in the quarterfinals before knocking off the No. 3 seeds Tom Liversage and Charl Wolmarans of San Diego 8-6. Fischer and Ricks will face Marco Foelz and Victor Medina of Fresno Pacific at noon on Sunday to play for the doubles title.

In singles action, Daniel Chu made it to the semifinals of the Flight A Singles bracket before falling to USC's Kaes Van't Hof 6-1, 6-4. Chu won earlier in the day, knocking off Fresno State's Charles Irie 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.

Fischer didn't fare as well in the quarters, dropping to Van't Hof 6-2, 7-5.

David Chu, younger brother of Daniel, equaled Daniel's day by advancing to the semifinals of the Flight B Singles bracket before losing a three-set heart-breaker to San Diego's Matt Ozurovich, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4). Chu had earlier beat the No. 5 seed Roberto Bianco of Fresno Pacific 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 to advance to the semis.

David Chu also teamed with Holden Ching in the Flight B Doubles, but the pair lost in the quarterfinals 8-6 to Santa Clara's Kenzo Hirakawa-Wong and Neal Vallurapalli.
