Cal Advances at Saint Mary's Invitational

Sophomore Claire Ilcinkas started out the tournament with a bye in the singles round of 32. Ilcinkas went on to defeat Erin Young of Saint Mary's College 7-5, 6-3, in the singles round of 16. Ilcinkas lost (6-2,6-1) to Maria Mizyuk in the quarterfinals.
In more singles action, Freshman Nina Henkel began her tournament with a bye on the round of 32. Henkel defeated Mylene Martin in the round of 16 and Alice Hall in the quarterfinals by scores of 6-0,6-3 and 6-2,6-4 respectively. The Cal freshman fell to Lindsay Burdette of Stanford in the semifinals.
Junior Daron Moore lost her first singles match of the tournament against Desiree Stone by a score of 6-2,2-6,7-6(6). In the consolation bracket Moore won her first match against Courtney Koenigsfeld 6-4,4-6.1-0(7), but fell to Bruna Paes 1-6,6-3,1-0(7) in the semifinals.
On the doubles court Henkel and Moore won their round of 16 match against Guier and Kappel of UC Davis by a score of 8-0. The Cal duo won their quarterfinal match against Nevada's Dinh and Tan 8-3. Henkel and Moore will take on Femke and Nienke Strybis of Saint Mary's College in semifinal action on Sunday.
The Saint Mary's Invitational will conclude Sunday October 15.
