Cardinal Squads Capture Bronco Invitational

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Stanford Cross Country captured two team victories at the Bronco Invitational today at Baylands Park. Stanford posted a low score of 34 points to cinch the men's competition, followed by UC Davis with 66 and Sacramento State with 87 points. On the women's side, the Cardinal tallied 68 points to earn the team win, followed by University of San Francisco with 99 points and UC Davis with 110 points.

Redshirt-junior Forrest Tahdooahnippah covered the 8,000 meter course in 23:56 to claim the individual title, followed by UC Davis' Chris Ferren-Cinino in second in 24:01. Redshirt-junior Lauren Jespersen finished fifth in 24:35, followed by redshirt-freshman Eric Giddings in 24:46. Redshirt-sophomore Chris Mocko (24:59), redshirt-junior Kevin Bickham (25:03) and redshirt-freshman Alex Greenburg (25:06) swept places 12-14, respectively. Redshirt-sophomore Jacob Evans rounded out the Cardinal runners in 25:25 for 22nd place.

The Cardinal women placed three runners in the top five finishers to earn the team title, led by runner-up sophomore Mary Liz McCurdy with a time of 17:25 on the 5,000 meter course. Nevada's Charlotte Schonbeck narrowly claimed first place in 17:24. Freshman Kelsey Walker (17:39) and redshirt-freshman Kaylin Pennington (17:42) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Senior Leah Sawyer finished 30th in 18:28, while redshirt-freshman Maddie O'Meara finished close behind in 31s (18:28) to round out Stanford's squad.

Boasting deep squads on both the men's and women's teams this season, Stanford also sent two teams to the Pre-NCAA Invitational today in Terre Haute, Indiana. The women capture the Blue race with 45 points and the men finished second in the White Race with 106 points.

The Cardinal will take next weekend off before hosting the 2006 Pac-10 Championships on the Stanford Golf Course on October 28. The women's race is slated to begin at 10:00 am, while the men's race begins at 11:00 am.
