Stanford's Kelley O'Hara Named Women's Soccer Pac-10 Player of the Week
Oct. 17, 2006
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - STANFORD freshman forward Kelley O'Hara has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 10-16, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
O'Hara was the driving force behind a Cardinal offense that racked up six goals during a weekend sweep of Arizona State and Arizona. Against the Sun Devils on Friday, O'Hara took six shots and netted the equalizer in the 51st minute, setting up the Cardinal for a 3-2 victory. Two days later O'Hara helped the Cardinal pull away from the Wildcats, assisting fellow freshman Ali Riley on a goal that put the Cardinal in front 2-0. In the 65th minute, O'Hara caught a corner kick in the air and punched in a goal to cap Stanford's 3-0 win over Arizona. O'Hara's three points in the match were a career-high.
Since joining the Cardinal in mid-September after a stint with the U-20 World Cup team, O'Hara has scored five goals in 11 games to rank fourth in the Conference in goals per game (0.45).
With the two home victories last weekend, Stanford has now won five straight on its home pitch, and is averaging 3.0 goals per game over those five matches. The Cardinal (9-5-1, 2-1-1) will try to sustain that firepower on the road, as they head north this weekend to take on Washington and Washington State.
This is O'Hara's first career Player of the Week award and the 18th all-time for Stanford, most of any Pac-10 school. Stanford players have won the award three times already this season, the most they have ever received in one year. Senior midfielder Shari Summers won the previous two.
