CAPE TOWN, South Africa - Arizona State women's golfers Anna Nordqvist and Azahara Munoz completed the first round of the 2006 Women's World Amateur in Cape Town, South Africa.

Nordqvist, who is competing for Sweden, shot a 4-under 68 to finish the first round in third place. Overall, Sweden is tied for second place after shooting a 5-under 139 on the day.

Held once every two years, the World Amateur positions 48 different teams against one another to compete for the Espirito Santo Trophy and the distinction of being, theoretically, the best team in the world. Each team consists of the respective countries top three players. Each country has different ways in which it goes about choosing their squads. Some base their decisions on a point system, while others go purely on rankings. Nordqvist and Munoz were chosen based on their rankings.
