Strong Pitching Leads Crimson To 5-0 Victory

PULLMAN, Wash. - Pitchers Matt Crowe and Josh Williamson combined on a three-hit shutout as the Crimson squad defeated the Gray 5-0 in the second game of the Crimson and Gray World Series Tuesday afternoon at Bailey-Brayton Field. The win clinches the series for the Crimson team as it captured Game One with a 10-1 win Monday.
Crowe started and went four strong innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two. Williamson came on in the fifth and went the final four innings, allowing just two hits and three strikeouts. All three hits allowed by the two were singles.
Sophomore Jared Prince connected on the first home run of the fall series, providing all the offense the Crimson squad needed. IN addition to Prince, Zach Borba had a pair of hits, including a double, while Simi Reynolds went 2-for-2 at the plate with two singles.
For the Gray team Mike Gilbert, Josh Ashenbrenner and Michael Weber each had a single on the afternoon. On the mound, freshman Zach Miller started and suffered the loss. Michael Ratigan worked the final four innings for the Gray squad.
Game three of the series is set for Wednesday afternoon at Bailey-Brayton Field with a 3 p.m. first pitch. The Cougars conclude fall practice at the conclusion of today's game.
