TEMPE, Ariz. - The Washington Huskies entered Thursday's match at Wells Fargo Arena as the sixth ranked team in the country and they looked every bit of it, sweeping Arizona State 3-0. The loss drops the Devils to 10-9 on the year, 2-6 in the Pac-10.
Washington came out hot to start game one, taking an early lead and cruising to a 30-20 win. The Sun Devils regrouped in game two, playing tough with the Huskies all game. UW had to fight off nine ties and four times came back from deficits before they claimed the second game 30-25. Game three was another hard-fought game, as the Devils and Huskies played it mostly even through the halfway point of the game. In the end, it was the offensive tandem of Christal Morrison and Jill Collymore for the Huskies, as the two combined for 35 kills to lead Washington to a 30-24 game three win and a 3-0 sweep.
Margie Giordano had a double-double in the loss for ASU, registering 15 kills and 11 digs. Nina Reeves chipped in with 11 kills of her own. Sydney Donahue led the defense with 15 digs. Washington turned in a .366 hitting percentages to the Devils .233, but ASU did register 8.5 total blocks. Staci Smith had five for ASU.
The Devils welcome the Washington State Cougars into Wells Fargo Arena on Friday night. The match will begin at 7 p.m. and will be shown on FSN Arizona on a tape delay Saturday night at 8 pm.
